As I sit in my office collecting my thoughts for this offering, I look out my window and see the vibrant fresh cut green grass, the trees in bloom, and the same funny squirrel (I’ve named Cornelius) holding his daily meeting with nature on his tree, I am reminded to breathe and take in all the newness of each day. So much planning has been going on with Faith Formation, even as we finish out this school year in just a few weeks, we are planning for a fantastic VBC, our work with the Izaak Walton Team, new summer study offerings and so much more that there have been days where I have missed taking in the changes spring brings.
In a world where there is so much hurting, there is a flip side to that coin. There is joy, happiness, peace, acceptance, love, and hope. Those are gifts God provides us each day. I am only one person who is constantly looking at how to make even just a small part of the world I live in a little better for myself and those around me.
A few weeks back we heard Pastor Kim speak about the Good Shepherd in her sermon. She brought up dogs multiple times and being the dog lover I am, it got me thinking; what can I do to be more in the likeness of the Good Shepherd? I mean we rescued our sweet Lucy Belle 7 years ago from a rescue and just this February after a Presby service project for Lakeshore PAWS, we welcomed Trixie Belle into the Lawson fold. What else can I do? John would flip if I came home with a third 4-legged friend…Volunteer! So, Molly and I headed to Lakeshore PAWS and signed up for two training classes this month; and we will be doing our part to help some of God’s precious animals.
There are many organizations in our community that look for willing volunteers to make the impact they are making even greater. This one place, you may have heard of it, the Presbyterian Church Resale Shop has a commitment to supporting local charities. If you would like to volunteer, please contact Mary Linda or the church office. My two kiddos love to help when needed!
In seven days, God created this masterpiece and continues to make this world a place for all to live, love, share, and care for every day. We all have a part to play. Whatever your strength is, you are encouraged to reach out and see how you can help. I will end my reflection with this quote from Mahatma Gandhi:
“We but mirror the world. All the tendencies present in the outer world are to be found in the world of our body. If we could change ourselves, the tendencies in the world would also change. As a man changes his own nature, so does the attitude of the world change towards him. This is the divine mystery supreme. A wonderful thing it is and the source of our happiness. We need not wait to see what others do.” -Mahatma Gandhi
Much love always,
Trish
