Trish Lawson's Reflections
On the heels of what was a most wonderful and reinventive version of the timeless story of the birth of Jesus, I am so full of gratitude: gratitude for Matthew’s talent of writing such a wonderful pageant lead by two amazingly gifted directors, Ben and Madison Keller and a cast of faithful FPCV members of all ages bringing those words to life. Another bit of gratitude goes to our very own Ron Scott. Weeks ago, I went to him and asked how his “Stable” making skills were, and without hesitation he responded with an “I can make that happen!” The stable is a beautiful piece that will be able to be a part of pageants and VBC for years to come!
I think what I love best about these special holidays in our church, is the allowance and encouragement for creativity and congregation participation. I look at the paper lace banner on the wall aside the cross and smile knowing how much fun I had helping to draw and cut it out. I look in the narthex and see the paper quilt being “stitched” each week with new colorful squares offered by our congregation that will take us through Epiphany. In the Hospitality Center, large paper Advent candles with questions allow for our congregation to offer affirmations for the season. It is creativity like this, that in my opinion, sets us apart from other churches and bonds us even more.
Going into 2025, I look forward to seeing all the new and inventive ways we will come together in our church and community.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year with love,
Trish
